2014-06-18_AOF-2955_RGB webThe Ragsdale YMCA offer swim lessons all year ‘round, with classes available for all persons ages 6 months and up! Sessions are scheduled for monthly sessions for the 2 day a week lessons (price is determined by the number of weeks in that month) or 1 day a week for 6 weeks on Saturdays. Infant and Preschool Classes will run for 25-30 minutes each week; Grade school and Adult Lessons will run for 40-45 minutes each week. Registration will continue until all classes are full or until the registration deadline listed on the Schedule & Details form.

Ages 6 months – 5 years

The Parent/Child class is designed for children ages 6 months to 36 months and is for the child and their parents. In these classes your child will be taught:

The Polliwog class is designed for beginner children ages 6-12. In this class your child will be taught:

Basic Front and Back Crawl (20 feet unassisted)
Basic Breaststroke (20 feet unassisted)
Rudimentary Breathing Technique

This level 2 class is for children ages 6-12 who can already accomplish the Polliwog class level. In this class your child will learn:
Treading Water
Freestyle Technique (75 feet or more)
Backstroke Technique (75 feet or more)
Breaststroke Techniques (75 feet or more)
Rudimentary Butterfly (kick and paddle)
Swimming with Flotation (Multiple Laps)
Alternating and Raised Breathing
Deep Water Entries / Rescue
Basic Diving Technique
This level 3 class is for children ages 6-12 who can already accomplish the Guppy class level. In this class your child will learn:
Practice in all four competitive strokes
Alternative strokes (sidestroke / elem. back)
Advanced Diving & Entry Techniques
Distance Swimming (100 yards+) and conditioning
Reaching & Throwing Assists 
Teaches children more of the technique aspects of front crawl, sidestroke, backstroke, breastroke, with an introduction to butterfly. Prerequisite: Children must be comfortable treading in deep water and swimming 25 yards (1 length) of front crawl and backstroke

Children will work on endurance and refining their technique on butterfly, breaststroke, front crawl, backstroke, and sidestroke. Children must be able to swim 50 yards (2 lengths) of front crawl, backstroke, breastroke, and sidestroke. After completion of this level children may participate in Porpoise Club or the GCY swim team.

Children will work on endurance and refining their technique on all strokes.  Swim Team or Porpoise Club prep is also part of this program.

Ages 13 years and up

Beginner skills for ages 13+ 
Intermediate skills for ages 13+

Porpoise Club

Porpoise Club is a unique swim training program that includes instruction to prepare for competitive swimming, such as stroke improvement, starts & turns, and speed and endurance training.  Porpoise Club will be offered monthly on Mondays and Wednesday.

Adaptive Swim Lessons 2017

In partner with The Arc of Highpoint, the Ragsdale YMCA will be offering Adaptive Swim Lessons with water safety Winter/Spring 2017.  The Adaptive Swim Lesson Program will offer basic water safety instruction, introduction to the water, and beginner level swimming skills. There will be a 1:1 teacher to student ratio for all students; please see available class times below. Please note space is limited to each class; registration will be done through Justine Intiso at 336.882.9622. We do need proof of diagnosis for grant purposes.
